Kruti Dev to Unicode Converter (Mangal)
Paste text typed in Kruti Dev 010 — it looks like English letters (Hkkjr) outside the Kruti Dev font — and get proper Unicode Hindi (भारत) that works everywhere: online application forms, WhatsApp, email and websites.
Kruti Dev and Unicode — what is the difference?
Kruti Dev 010 is an older Hindi font that places Hindi letters on the codes of English letters: the word भारत is stored as Hkkjr, and it only looks like Hindi when the Kruti Dev font is applied. Unicode is the international standard used by Mangal, Nirmala UI, Noto Sans Devanagari, Google Docs and every phone, so Unicode Hindi looks right everywhere — in browsers, email, WhatsApp and online application forms. That is why Kruti Dev text must be converted before it can be pasted into a website or form.
How to convert Kruti Dev to Unicode
Copy the text from your Word or PageMaker file while it is still in the Kruti Dev font, paste it into the left box and the Unicode Hindi appears on the right as you type. Use Copy result and paste it anywhere; in Word, set the converted text to Mangal or Nirmala UI.
Hindi typing tests and Kruti Dev
Many government offices and court typing tests still use Kruti Dev with the Remington keyboard, while computer-based tests usually use a Unicode font such as Mangal with the Remington (GAIL) or InScript layout. The recruitment notification names the font and layout that will be used — practise in the same one. This converter helps you move practice passages between the two.
Accuracy and limitations
The converter handles half letters, conjuncts (क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ, श्र, द्य), the short i-matra typed before the letter, reph (र्) typed after the syllable, nukta letters and Devanagari digits. Each Unicode to Kruti Dev result is checked by converting it back, and over 8 lakh words of Hindi text on this site convert back unchanged. English letters inside Hindi text cannot be represented in Kruti Dev (in that font every English key is a Hindi letter), and the symbols _ + % have no Kruti Dev glyph — check those by hand. It is built for Kruti Dev 010, the most common version; other Kruti Dev fonts that use the same keyboard layout convert the same way.
